Hi I need to change my ceiling fan which I currently have running through a Tuya wall switch with 3 buttons (Slow / Med / High). My Fan has died and needs to be replaced and I am looking at replacing with a DC fan which has Tuya built in for activation through phone and google assistant. The way these all seem to work is without a wall switch (just has an isolation switch). I would like to still be able to use my smart wall switch in a now remote mode (similar to how I changed a 2way stairway light with 2 separate smart switches (however only one of them is wired into the circuit and the other is just a remote control in essence that when pressed changes the status of the main switch for that light).

The new smart fan I am looking at is designed to be fully hard wired (with only an isolation switch) with all changes to status to be done is via a remote control, Tuya app, Google Home etc. The key part that I feel is going to be an issue with what I want to do is that the fan (and all the ones I like) have 6 or sometimes 7 air speeds yet my wall switch is only 3 speed.

  1. Anyone know of a way of doing this. I am happy to have the wall switch only being able to activate say speed 1, 2, 3 or 1, 3, 5 or similar but want it to be able to show the fan is running and also switch it off or on (regardless of whether it was activated by remote control, tuya app or google home
  2. If yes can I program say low speed to be lit if on speed 1 or 2, mid speed lit for speed 3/4 and high speed lit for speed 5/6.
For clarification at the moment when the fan is on the light of the speed it is on is lit. Pressing that same button currently switches it off.

Appreciate any information people can provide or resource links provided.

I was fighting with this all through the summer. If you order a fan online you invariably get an AC fan which won’t work with the Tuya wall switches. Local suppliers also didn’t know that most fans are AC nor in some cases did they know there is a difference. I eventually found a DC fan but not after lots of non-help from the likes of Moes who don’t seem to understand what they’re selling. I ended up not using the Moes wall switches but found a Tuya compatible interface from AliExpress. I can control it from the Tuta/SmartLife app but only on/off and the three speeds. I can’t reverse the fan and I had to discard the original built-in light (which was switchable between cool, warm and natural light) as the controller would only switch the cool light on and off. The fan was supplied with a remote control enabling you to control the fan without using your phone. If anyone can find a better solution, please post it here.
