According to the recent IHS research, DIY smart home kits are replacing the traditional alarm systems to become the popular security products in today’s alarm and security market. Easy do-it-yourself installation, using smartphone to remotely arm/disarm system, even remotely control the home electronics, many users choose to buy smart home kits at retail channel online or distributors.
Because of low cost but high quality, Made-in-China home automation systems are attractive to many users. In this article, we are going to introduce 6 DIY home automation system from Chinese manufacturers. Some of them are designed for a single application or for several applications. Common application include intrusion detection and energy management. Some other products come with HD IP camera to offer HD video surveillance.

The Heiman HiSmart H5 Kit is a complete home and automation security system that provides energy management, home automation and home security functions. Similar to other smart home gadgets, H5 smart gateway supports ZigBee and Wi-Fi connection, the smart gateway can work with different security sensors and home automation accessories. Heiman is able to offer a wide range of security sensors including door/window sensor, water leak (flood) sensor, gas leak sensor to secure your property. The included HD IP camera is the Unifore D1000, which is a cost-effective HD IP camera. The smart socket can be used to turn on/off different home appliances.

The Arm and Disarm/SOS is a portable button that can be used for arm and disarm as well as sending emergency alerts. When sensors are triggered, the Siren Alarm will sound and light up, and push notifications will be sent to the user.

The AiO Smart Sensor can be directly plugged into the wall for power and has two sensors in one device – a light sensor and a PIR sensor. The sensors are located on the rotatable cover at the front of the device, and users can rotate the cover to have the sensors face the direction where motion may occur.
The Smart Plug keeps track of power consumption and has a switch for group control.
The kit also supports IFTTT.

ORVIBO ZigBee Home Awareness Kit
Debuted at CES 2016, the ZigBee Home Awareness Kit is an elegantly designed kit for home security. The kit works with ORVIBO’s HomeMate App, which will alert the user when motion is detected.
The Door & Window Sensor and the Motion Sensor are powered by one CR2302 button battery and two AA batteries, respectively. The batteries can last more than 1 year according to the company.
The kit is already in production for sales in China and other countries.
