What's the star low-light? The most security cameras are designed to operate in 24 hours a day, so IP camera should capture clear images not only in the daytime, but also at night. Due to the image sensor's sensitivity, regular HD IP cameras have poor performance when it works at night without using artificial lighting. The star low light camera utilizes high sensitivity image sensor to capture video, when it works at night, the security camera can see clearly with help of star-low light. Additionally, because there is no Infrared illumination, the star low-light security cameras are able to capture clear color image at night. In summary, a star low light security camera can provide you true day & night video surveillance.
In this article, we intend to introduce you the Hikvision DS-2CD5085F-(A)(P) which is a star low light 8MP HD IP Camera. This camera adopts a 1/1.7-inch big size CMOS image sensor to capture video. It supports CS/C-mountable lens to allow you to achieve the best performance in different IP video surveillance applications.
Ultra HD Image Resolution
In order to test its video capturing capability, we minimize the optical zoom, let the camera aims at 4K resolution testing card. After the measurement, we find this camera's horizontal & vertical resolution is 1900TVL, edge resolution is a bit low. Using the 24* color reproduction card to test, we find the image color have been accurately reproduced. In its final greyscale testing, the recognizable grayscale reaches up to 18, 19 grade.
This network camera can deliver up to 8MP (4096x2160) UHD video, under this video resolution it is able to deliver 30fps real-time video. Additionally, users can crop the image to zoom in for details; or change resolution, bitrate settings to meet the requirement of different image quality and video latency in surveillance scenes. By the way, DS-2CD5085F-A/P supports H.265 / H.264 / MJPEG video codec, allowing users to set resolution, bitrate, image quality for video streams. In the following bitrate testing, we find this camera's average bitrate is in the range of 6.3-6.5Mbps, under the 4096×2160@25fps, 6Mbps video parameter.
Star low-light performance
In low-light testing, we place the camera into dark box, then reduce the illumination to simulate the low-light environment. When Lux meter shows 0.89Lux, the security camera automatically switches to monochrome mode, keep reducing the illumination to "0.00" (real value is 0.0005Lux), image keeps clear, meanwhile we force the camera to switch to color mode, we find the camera's minimum illumination value is approximate 0.03Lux (F1.5).
Similar to other Hikvision Smart 2.0 IP cameras, DS-2CD5085F-(A)(P) comes with Smart video analytic functions including line crossing, missing-object, people gathering, parking etc smart detection. Additionally, it provides line crossing counting, face recognition.

This camera keeps consistency of Hikvision camera design, white paint metal housing, special heat dissipation fin design. In real test, it mounts a HV1140D-8MPIR Auto-Iris 8MP manual lens. In terms of its interface, it owns 128GB microSD/SDHC/SDXC card slot, 10/100/1000M self-adaptive RJ45 port, 1 audio input/output, 2 alarm inputs/outputs, 1 BNC analog video output etc.
